Programs and rates

A program sets what affiliates earn, for how long, and who can join.

Every affiliate belongs to exactly one program. The program decides the commission rate, how long a referral keeps earning, how long a visitor has to buy, how long each commission is held, and whether anyone can join. A product can have as many programs as you need, for example an open program for everyone and an invite-only tier with a higher rate.

Your first program is created during onboarding. It takes your product's name and always has Public signup on.

Create a program

Open Programs and press New program
Fill in the settings
Every field except the name starts with a default: 20% of every payment, forever, 60 days to buy, a 30-day hold and Public signup on.
Press Create program
The program appears as a card. Press Copy signup link to share it, or Edit to change it later.

Commission duration

The select next to the rate decides which payments of a referred customer earn. The duration counts once per referral, from the referral's first payment, not from the click.

With 12 months on a monthly plan, a referral earns on 12 payments: the first and the next 11 renewals. A renewal that lands within one day of the end of the period does not earn, so a billing date that drifts by a few minutes never adds a 13th. See What earns a commission for which payments count.

Time to buy

A sale counts for the affiliate if checkout completes within this many days of their click. The last affiliate link a visitor clicked gets the credit, and every new click starts the window again.

The window applies to the purchase only. Renewals of a referred subscription follow the commission duration instead.
Supaffi checks it on the server, when Stripe reports the checkout.

Hold before paying

Each commission waits this many days from the moment it is recorded before it becomes Payable. During the hold, a refund still cancels or lowers it and a chargeback still holds it. Once you mark a commission paid, nothing changes it.

Set the hold at least as long as your refund window. It is what protects you from paying for a sale that is refunded later. See Commission lifecycle.

With Public signup on, anyone with the program's signup link can join. Turn it off for a tier you move affiliates into yourself. The program card then shows Invite only instead of Copy signup link, and the signup link shows an invite-only page with a Log in button.

To fill an invite-only program, let the affiliate sign up to an open program, then move them.

Change a program's terms

Press Edit on the program card, change the fields, then press Save.

New terms apply to sales recorded after you save. Commissions already recorded keep their amount and their payable date.
Each sale uses the affiliate's program, and its terms, at the moment Stripe reports the payment. That includes renewals from customers referred before the change.
Programs cannot be deleted. To close one to new affiliates, turn off Public signup.

Custom rates

One affiliate can earn a different percentage from the rest of their program. A custom rate replaces the program's rate for that affiliate only; the duration, time to buy and hold still come from the program. See Set a custom rate.
